The transcription editor is responsible for listening to voice-recorded files and comparison to the transcribed report of that audio file, and edit grammar errors as well as proper usage of medical terms. The editor will ensure that transcribed reports contain all required documentation elements and are formatted appropriately for each specific work type. The editor may transcribe medical information using transcription and/or editing equipment, such as voice recognition and proofreading finished documents for accuracy and completeness. The transcription editor will distribute and file reports according to established procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of medical transcription/medical editing.
Advanced typing skills, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
English composition and grammar, including punctuation.
Excellent communication skills to have the ability to interact with physicians, clinical staff and contracted service to troubleshoot and assist with questions and issues.
Medical terminology, including meaning, spelling and pronunciation/phrasing.
Anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, disease processes, pathology knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of medical transcription standard guidelines.
Strong research skills and the ability to understand diverse accents, dialects, and various dictation styles in order to consistently provide a high quality finished report.
Strong proficiency in the multiple report types and multiple specialties.
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking.
